In oxidizing firing (electric kiln) copper oxide develops greenish yellow hues in glazes.

In saturation in the glaze it develops metallic blacks.

Copper oxide is a colorant, it gives blue and green tints, increases the fusibility of the glazes and improves the shine.



High density black powder insoluble in water and soluble in acids and ammonium chloride, which decomposes at 1026 ° C.

In neutral or oxidizing conditions, green glazes are obtained with it, as with carbonate, except with alkaline frits with which it will give the typical turquoise tone.

In the reducing sphere, they are obtained with oxide and carbonate, the red tones known as Blood of Bull, and a good reduction well controlled will lead us to obtain the Hispanic-Arabic reflection or the metallic reflection.

It is a powerful coloring oxide, so if the addition is excessive, it can give undesirable local or total metallizations.
